The Danxiashan region is a religious sanctuary in southern China, with a history of religious activities spanning over 2,000 years. Among them, Jinshiyan Temple is a famous Buddhist temple, unique for being built in the gaps of rock layers on a cliff. This because the cliff contain weak rock layers that are easily weathered. Over a long period of wind and water erosion, these rock gaps and caves were formed. About 1,000 years ago, the Buddhist monk Fayun saw the scenery here and suddenly felt enlightened, saying, "Half my life has been a dream, today I finally awaken to the truth." He then gathered over hundreds of people to transform the caves near Mengjueguan Cave into a temple and inscribed the words "梦觉关(Mengjueguan Cave in English)" on the wall. After generations of expansion, it has become a large temple covering an area of more than 2,000 square meters.
The temple also features a famous attraction: Longlinpianshi Rock. This is a small honeycomb-like cave zone about 1 meter wide and tens of meters long, hosting cyanobacteria that appear green and yellow. These organisms change color with temperature and humidity, resembling the scales of dragons from Chinese mythology.
