100 Million years geological history
The formation of Danxiashan's landscape can be traced back to the Cretaceous period, around 100 million years
ago, when it was a vast ancient lake. Over the span of 100 million years, tectonic movements, weathering, and
rock
collapses transformed the lake's sediments into the awe-inspiring red rock peak forest landscape we see today.
After studying Danxiashan's landscape, geologists classified it as a unique type of landform and named it after
the
region—Danxia landform.
4000 years history
Danxiashan not only boasts unique landscape and vast ecological diversity but also has a long history of human
activity. Human presence in the area dates back to approximately 4000 years ago, and has continued to the present day.
As a result, Danxiashan is home to a wide range of cultural heritage sites, including mountain fortresses, temples,
ancient villages, tombs, and cliff carvings.
