In 2020, with the support and guidance of the School of Life Sciences at Sun Yat-sen University, Danxiashan UNESCO Global Geopark formed its first bird-watching team. This team includes 60 members who have been actively involved in bird monitoring at Danxiashan. As of August 2022, they have observed 248 species of common birds, including two first-class nationally protected species, the Chinese merganser and the yellow-breasted bunting, as well as more than 30 second-class nationally protected bird species. This work has provided essential data for bird conservation efforts.
