On 2 April 2026, Danxiashan UNESCO Global Geopark and M’Goun UNESCO Global Geopark (Morocco) held an online exchange meeting. The year 2026 marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Africa, providing a meaningful context for strengthening cooperation between the two sister geoparks. The exchange focused on key themes including geological heritage conservation, biodiversity protection, community engagement, and sustainable tourism.

It also built upon the partnership established in September 2023, when the two geoparks formally signed a Sister Geopark Agreement during the 10th International Conference on UNESCO Global Geoparks.
During the meeting, representatives of Danxiashan UNESCO Global Geopark presented an overview of the geopark’s work in heritage conservation, science popularization and field study, community participation, and the integration of culture and tourism, highlighting practical approaches to supporting local sustainable development.

Both geoparks expressed their commitment to establishing a mechanism for regular exchange and agreed to further strengthen collaboration in science popularization, joint scientific research, and cultural and tourism exchanges.

As one of the first UNESCO Global Geoparks and a World Natural Heritage site, Danxiashan continues to actively contribute to the Global Geoparks Network by promoting international cooperation in geoscience and sustainable development. This exchange further reinforces the partnership between the two sister geoparks. Looking ahead, Danxiashan will continue to deepen cooperation with its African partner, share experiences in geological heritage conservation, and contribute to the sustainable development of UNESCO Global Geoparks worldwide.
