On the morning of October 20, the highly anticipated 2024 Tour of Mount Danxiashan Cycling Race officially began at Danxiashan, a UNESCO Global Geopark and World Natural Heritage site. This event, blending competitive spirit, breathtaking landscapes, and cultural richness, unfolded along the scenic Yuedan Route, renowned for its winding paths and awe-inspiring views.
The race started at 8:30am with the sound of a ceremonial whistle, signaling the beginning of a day filled with excitement. Participants, divided into competitive and recreational categories, set off in an orderly fashion. Nearly 2,000 cyclists raced through the “Magnificent Danxia” landscape, soaking in the stunning scenery along Yuedan Route, which is celebrated as one of China’s “most beautiful tourist highways.” This purpose-built road not only links the Danxiashan Scenic Area with downtown Shaoguan but also provides a cyclist-friendly environment surrounded by lush greenery.
As the event progressed, riders entered the heart of the Danxiashan Scenic Area. The route took them through historic villages, offering a unique opportunity to experience the region’s rich cultural heritage.
