On September 12, Donghua Senior High School hosted a public demonstration class focused on danxia landscapes as part of the basic education curriculum.
The lesson began with Wang Xu, a geography teacher at Donghua Senior High School and a volunteer at Danxiashan UNESCO Global Geopark, sharing his experiences from a volunteer training camp. He used videos and stunning images to introduce the topic, leading into the lesson on "External Forces and Landscapes."
"External Forces and Landscapes" is a key topic in the high school geography curriculum. Wang Xu carefully structured the lesson using China Danxia World Heritage sites as a guiding example. The lesson was divided into four sections: theoretical knowledge, scientific investigation, thought modeling, and national pride. Students analyzed the formation of landmarks like the "Tongtaiqiao Arch" and "Longlinpianshi Rock" through group discussions, using four classic field study sites from Danxiashan UNESCO Global Geopark as case studies. The lesson wrapped up with a summary of the geological evolution of danxia landscape. In the closing segment, Wang explained the origin of the term "danxia landscape" and detailed its journey toward gaining international recognition. He also emphasized Mount Danxiashan’s importance as a UNESCO Global Geopark and a World Heritage site in promoting ecological civilization. The lesson echoed President Xi Jinping’s statements on protecting natural and cultural heritage, inspiring those in the field to preserve the geological relics and safeguard biodiversity of danxia landscapes.
Unlike traditional science lectures, this demonstration class combined professional-level knowledge with basic education, creating an innovative model for teaching. It broadened the reach of Danxiashan UGGp’s scientific significance and advanced public understanding of danxia landscapes, marking another step in the ongoing effort to raise awareness of this unique geological heritage.
