Mt. Danxia is located in the outskirts of Shaoguan City, in Guangdong Province, with an area of 292 km2. Mt. Danxia, also known as the China’s red stone park and the namesake of Danxia landform, is a scenic spot characterized by Danxia landscape, which places emphasis on both nature and culture. Mt. Danxia is an outstanding representation of mountainous landscapes at low altitude and is well-known for its beautiful dark red color tone — just like dramatic rosy clouds reflecting in the clearly sky, hence the name “Danxia” (literally means rosy clouds). Mt. Danxia was opened to tourists in 1980, selected by UNESCO as among one of first Global Geoparks in 2004, and listed on the World Natural Heritage list in 2010.
